Two plain sheets you fill in yourself: who works for you, and what your shifts
are. Define Morning 07:00–15:00 once and type M from then on.
One click makes the grid — every day of the month, weekends shaded, a colour for each shift, and a dropdown so nobody mistypes a code.
Every mistake a spreadsheet cannot see: the same person twice, four hours of sleep between shifts, a quiet slide into overtime, eleven days without a break.
Hours per person, overtime calculated weekly rather than monthly, and a printable timesheet with a signature line at the bottom.
These run against the whole month in one pass. Findings go to their own sheet — your grid is never edited.
Every rule below exists because a scheduling add-on somewhere broke it.
Building September does not erase August. The previous grid is renamed to
Schedule 2026-08 and left in the spreadsheet.
After setup, nothing writes to Staff, Shifts or Schedule. Reports are written to their own sheets. Format the grid however you like — it will not be reverted.
Colours are read from your Shifts sheet. As many as you have shifts. No fixed palette to run out of.
Fifty hours one week and thirty the next is ten hours of overtime, not zero. Averaging across the month quietly underpays people.
The free version is a working product, not a trial. It does not expire.

There is no server. ShiftSheet runs inside Google Sheets, on Google's own infrastructure. Your staff names, hours and pay rates never travel to us, because there is nowhere for them to travel to.
The add-on can read and write only the one spreadsheet you open it in — that is
what the spreadsheets.currentonly permission means. It cannot see your
other files, your Drive, your email or your calendar.
The only thing that ever leaves your browser is a licence key, sent to our payment provider to confirm it is valid. No analytics, no tracking, no third parties.
It creates sheets — Staff, Shifts, Schedule, and the report sheets. After that it only writes to the report sheets. Your grid, your formatting and your notes are left alone.
Yes. Put both codes in the cell separated by a slash: M/A. Both appear
as separate lines on the timesheet, and the checker will tell you if they overlap.
Yes. A shift from 23:00 to 07:00 is measured as eight hours ending the next morning, so the rest-gap check knows that a 07:00 start the following day means zero rest.
Not yet. Calendar access is a broader permission than this add-on asks for today. It is the first thing on the list once enough people ask for it.
Nothing leaves. Uninstall the add-on and every sheet it made stays in your spreadsheet, readable as an ordinary spreadsheet, forever.
No. It does not expire and it is not limited by time. Up to eight people, every check, hour totals — free, indefinitely.
